When the four of us finally got together to choose the list of baby shower games for Kelly’s baby shower the list of baby shower games was actually very long. I was amazed at just how many silly games there are to play and how much fun they sounded like to play. The final list of baby shower games we ended up with to choose from was 25, now we had to determine how long each game would take and how much time we would have to play games during the shower. We actually had a couple list of baby shower games to choose from, time was the determining factor.

We finally decided on a list of baby shower games of 5, we would have time to play four of the games for sure and a fifth game if we needed it. We decided that each of us would buy the prize for one of the baby shower games and that I would buy the extra gifts if we needed. We did not share what the gifts would be so if one of us were to win a game we would be surprised at what we received.

Out of all the list of baby shower games, the game that I most wanted to play at Kelly’s shower was the “That’s My Gift” game so I purchased enough gifts to play the game, after all this was my first and only baby shower that I would attend and I wanted every part of it to be memorable. I purchased 25 gifts for the game with 5 of the gifts being gag gifts. We all agreed to play the game 3rd, that way the “ice” would already be broken between all the guest and everyone would be talking, laughing and carrying on. I will admit there were a couple of other games on the list of baby shower games I also like very much, I just liked the “That’s My Gift” game from the list of baby shower games because it really got everyone involved and talking to each other.

The list of baby shower games that we finally decided on for our list of baby shower games is:

1. First on our list of baby shower games:

Baby Bingo ( 6 prizes were needed)

As exciting as it is watching the mom-to-be open all her presents, this game will help all the others watching have a little fun as well. Label each gift that was brought by simply writing a number on the gift (if 15 gifts were brought, number the gifts 1-15). Then, each woman will take a paper and create 15 squares and randomly place the numbers 1-15 throughout their squares. Each woman will place their numbers individually, so each person’s numbers are in different squares. Also, if there are more or less than 15 gifts, create as many squares on the paper as gifts. Then, when mom-to-be opens a present, she’ll call out that gift’s number, and everyone will mark off that number on their sheet. Once someone gets 5 in a row (or an X, borders, or blackout), they get a prize. Everyone choose this game for the list of baby shower games.

2. Second on our list of baby shower games:

Alphabet Name Game

Each guest will take a pen and paper, and along the left side of the paper they will vertically write all the letters of the alphabet. At ‘go,’ each woman will write as many baby items as they can for each letter. For the letter B, as an example, you might write: bottle, binky, burp cloth, brush, booties, etc. If a guest wrote these, they would get 5 points for the letter B. Each guest receives a point for every item they write down; however, if they did not write anything down for a letter (or multiple letters), they lose a point for every letter they did not write an item. A prize is given to the woman who wrote the most down. To make it more difficult and fun, allot 10 seconds for each letter, and people only get points for writing something that nobody else wrote down. Go through every letter, and the person with the most points wins. Three people choose this game for the list of baby shower games.

3. Third on our list of baby shower games:

That’s My Gift (25 gifts were needed)(Lots of FUN!!!)

Have several wrapped gifts (one for each guest), including a few gag gifts if you wish. Set a timer to go off in regular intervals, for prize picking. Pick one guest to come forward and have her pick out one prize. When the timer sounds, have another guest come forward and either pick a new gift or steal the gift the previous person chose. Keep going until everyone has a gift. If you’d like you can play a few more rounds, randomly choosing a guest and allowing them to either keep the gift they have to steal someone else’s. When you decide to end the game, guests keep whatever prize it is they are holding at the time. Allow them to unwrap and see what they were fighting over. Three choose this game for the list of baby shower games.

4. Fourth on our list of baby shower games:

Baby Items Memory Game

Before the shower, place roughly 25 items on a cookie sheet that the mother-to-be will need. Bring the cookie sheet out with all the items for everyone to view for about 30-40 seconds. Then, remove the pan of items and everyone will have about 2 minutes to write down as many items that they can remember. The person who writes the most down will receive a prize, and all the items will go to the mother. (Examples of items: bottle, brush, pacifier, bib, soap, blanket, burp cloth, wipes, shoes, socks, diaper, pins, teddy bear, rattle, onesie, baby food, ear syringe, etc.) All four of us choose this game for our list of baby shower games.

5. Fifth on our list of baby shower games:

How Big Is Mommy’s Tummy?

One of the most popular baby shower games! Make sure you have plenty of toilet paper on hand for this one. Instruct guests to unroll a length of toilet paper (you can use ribbon or other similar item if you feel uncomfortable using toilet paper) that they believe will fit exactly around the waist of mom-to-be. Be warned though, many people overestimate vastly, so if mom is sensitive about her weight, this might not be the best game to try. Prizes awarded to the person who fits their paper exactly, or the closest to actual size of the mother-to-be. We also all chose this game for our alternative or extra game for our list of baby shower games.

As you can see the right list of baby shower games can make all the difference in the success of the shower. Taking the time to put together the right list of baby shower games for your shower is well worth the time. Ask around, most will tell you that the list of baby shower games you choose for your shower is key to it’s success.

Kelly’s sister and friends all had great ideas when it came to the baby shower pictures and a scrap book of memories. They had been to many more baby showers recently than I had and shared all of their experiences to come up with a plan to capture baby shower pictures and memories for Kelly’s baby shower. We came up with a great way to not only capture all of the video from the baby shower but also great baby shower pictures.

Between the four of us we were able to gather 4 different video recorders that we could place around the baby shower to capture everything and baby shower pictures. Then Kelly’s sister would edit all the recordings into one video. She already had the software and knowledge of just how to do it so when it was time we would all get to choose some of our favorite moments from the recordings to be added to the video or printed as a baby shower picture for the scrap book. It just amazes me at what can be done in your own home with a computer.

Capture memorable moments with baby shower pictures

Many of the guest brought cameras with them and agreed to share any baby shower pictures with us for the scrap book of memories. This was a great idea because all of the pictures take from all the different ladies captured photos of what they thought was a memorable moment. They were able to capture more baby shower pictures than just one person could ever take during a shower. I was also able to have a few baby shower pictures copied for myself that I found to be absolutely wonderful.

I love photos in black and white and was going to take a roll of baby shower pictures to have for the scrap book. I am so glad that I took the time to borrow the special camera to take them, they turned out to be some of the best baby shower pictures taken at the shower and really added a special touch to the baby shower scrap book of memories. The black and white photo that I took of Kelly with here mom and grandmother turned out so beautiful that I had copies made and framed one for all three of them. It was probably one of the most favorite of all the baby shower pictures taken.

In addition to the baby shower pictures we kept memento’s from the shower to add throughout the scrap book. We ask all the invited guest to bring their baby shower invitations with them when they attended the shower, once there we asked them to write a short message or blessing to Kelly inside them. We made sure to take a picture of Kelly with all of her guests at the baby shower and placed their individual pictures and invitations together in the scrap book amongst all the baby shower pictures. The scrap book of memories turned out fabulous, it was perfect.

With the baby shower pictures and the scrap book taken care of our next mission was to find some of the best baby shower games available for our baby shower.

It is amazing at just how many of Kelly’s friends have no idea of what to get for baby shower gifts. Everyone just had to know the sex of the baby so it seems fairly obvious to me that an outfit of some kind would be the a very easy gift to choose. But I am taking full advantage of this and making up some baby shower gifts lists of different times that Kelly will both need and want to give out to everyone asking.

Baby Shower Gifts

The first baby shower gifts list is made up from just baby supplies, things that Kelly will need and use everyday with the new baby. Items such as baby lotions & shampoos, baby powders, diaper rash ointments, Q-tips, alcohol wipes, nail clippers, digital thermometer, baby brush, cradle cap comb, diapers, baby wipes, nasal aspirator, bath tubs, diaper pails, crib sheets, changing mats, nursing pads or baby monitors.

All or a combination of the above baby shower gifts can be put together is a basket or a baby bath tub as a gift. Wrapped in clear or tinted cellophane with a bright ribbon makes for a beautiful shower gift, and one that is truly appreciated. A new mommy can never have to much of these items on hand with a new baby, especially diapers and baby wipes.

Baby Shower Gifts

The second baby shower gifts list is made up of things Kelly will need for feeding her new bundle of joy. You wouldn’t think this list would be very long but actually there are a lot of different items that would make great gifts. Things like baby bibs and burp cloths, baby bottles, breastfeeding items such as pumps and storage bags, nursing pillows, sippy cups, bowls, utensils, high chairs, boosters and still more baby wipes.

The third baby shower gifts list is made up of baby toys and gear. Colorful soft plush stuffed toys and animals are perfect for newborns to gaze at. There are bath toys, crib toys,play mats to lay on with colorful activity gyms to hang above them, rattles and teethers, baby swings, baby bouncers, baby carriers, strollers, play pens and musical mobiles.

Lastly, I added a short baby shower gifts list of clothing items to the bottom of the above lists. Sleepers, gowns, swaddlers, booties, socks, onesies, bodysuit’s, tops and bottoms, matching sets, gift sets, hats and coats. I also noted that all of the items on the clothing list could be purchased in the next two larger sizes larger, so Kelly had a supply that would last longer that just the first couple of months.

I intentionally left out big prices items from the baby shower gifts lists, I figured between myself and Kelly’s mom we could help get any big price ticket items she may want or need. Now that the baby shower gifts lists where finished our next mission was making sure we captured all of these memories for Kelly. Baby shower pictures and scrap book of memories we next.

We are getting very close to the shower now so the baby shower food, drinks and party favors are our next task. The food and drinks we want to keep simple but delicious and fun. The party favors we want to be cute, fun and memorable.

Baby Shower Food, Drinks And Party Favors

Since there are so many of us pitching in on this baby shower the baby shower food, drinks and party favors are going to be split up. Two of us will do the food and drinks while the other two will do the party favors once we have all decided on what we want to serve and a memorable party favor.

A cake was absolutely going to on the top of the baby shower food, drinks and party favors list, Red Velvet was Kelly’s favorite so we really didn’t need to choose a flavor for that. We ordered one that was decorated in a jungle theme with the colors we used. It turned out perfect. For food, we decided to go with finger foods. Everyone could load up a party plate with a variety of yummy finger foods. And for drinks we choose coffee (reg. & decaf), tea (reg. & decaf), bottled water and a fruit punch.

Our list of finger foods included; cheese’s, cracker’s, fruits, veggie’s, dips for both fruits (apple slices, strawberries, melon chunks, kiwi slices, pears and grapes) and veggie’s (baby carrots, celery sticks, broccoli florets, cauliflower florets, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers and radishes), meatball’s with toothpicks, pigs-in-a-blanket and pizza slices from homemade 6″ cheese & pepperoni pizzas. The food part of our baby shower food, drinks and party favors list was a hit with everyone.

For our baby shower favors we found adorable little stuffed elephants, monkeys and parrots online. We ordered ribbons in our jungle theme colors with Kelly’s name and the date of her shower on them to tie around the stuffed animals. They were a bit pricey but since I was paying and I wanted everything to memorable they made the party favors for our baby shower food, drinks and party favors list the absolute perfect choice. Everyone just loved them, especially Kelly!

Now that we have successfully completed our baby shower food, drinks and party favors list, the next thing we needed to tackle will be baby shower gifts, everyone is asking for ideas so we are going to put together helpful list to give to anyone that wants help or ideas.

It is amazing just how many different baby shower invitations that are available for all the many different baby shower themes. We had narrowed our choices down to three, one that had the perfect colors we wanted, one that had the perfect animals on them that we wanted and one that we all really liked but had nothing in common with our theme.

Choosing baby shower invitations

When choosing baby shower invitations it is a very easy choice if you stick with the basics, pastel colors, baby items and stay away from a definite theme. Your choice of invitations are really limitless. Any style, theme or color will work perfect. This is also true if you stick with packaged theme that comes with the invitations.

If on the other hand you pick a theme and your own colors this can make choosing the right baby shower invitations a bit more challenging. I have never been one that had to have everything match perfectly so having an invitation that had nothing to do with the theme of the shower was my first choice. Kelly’s  sister wanted the invitations that had the perfect colors and her friend wanted the animal invitations.

We decided to go with all three choices of baby shower invitations. We really could not agree on just one so it was the next best choice. When it came time to send them out we simply filled out all the information first and sealed them all up in envelopes before we addressed them. In the end, everyone was happy. Before you actually go out and purchase baby shower invitations it is really worth your time to do a search online for ideas and suggestions. It helps make your choice much easier knowing exactly what you want and are looking for. You can also make your purchases online, this can really save you a lot of your time and money. The price of gas alone can easily be the same as shipping costs and with many purchases free shipping is offered.

Another choice is to make your own baby shower invitations. If you have a computer and printer you have everything you need. Images and photos are readily available online for you to use. There are websites that will allow you to design your own invitations and print them out at very reasonable prices. Or you can just as easily design your own and print them out. Making your own baby shower invitations is just that simple.

The three baby shower invitations that we chose worked out perfect for our baby shower. The big day is almost here and we are now thinking about food, drink and party favors. I will keep you posted on what we decide to serve and the party favors we select.

The baby shower theme would be the next decision to make. After talking with some of Kelly’s sister’s and friends we have all decided that one of her sister’s (Karen) would actually host the shower and I would help with ideas for a baby shower theme, decorating ideas and the cost’s involved. Her other sister’s and friends are going to help with the decorations and foods being served. So far we are off to a great start, next decision is the overall theme for the shower.

Karen’s first question was if it was going to be a surprise baby shower or would Kelly be informed about it. I wanted it to be a surprise shower, but was quickly out voted by her friends and sister’s. They convinced me that it would help in choosing the best baby shower theme for Kelly’s shower.

The best baby shower theme

Another reason they had for involving Kelly was that she and my son were going find out the sex of my grandchild soon and this would be information that we could use either with the baby shower theme, the invitations and in gift ideas. I wasn’t as excited as everyone else about knowing the sex of the baby, I guess I’m just a bit old fashioned when it came to that. I would much rather be surprised on the day the baby is born to meet my new grandson or granddaughter.

I was overwhelmed at just how many baby shower themes there were to choose from when I looked for suggestions online. There are ideas and suggestions for just about any baby shower theme you are interested in. The baby shower theme we decided on was one of a jungle type theme. Now the only thing we had to decide on was exactly which jungle baby shower theme, there were several different ones to pick from.

I ordered a diaper cake decorated in a jungle baby shower theme for the table center-piece. We were able to find the perfect colors in streamers and balloons for decorating and with the use of a few well placed ferns, palms and flowering plants the perfect jungle baby shower theme was coming to life before our eyes. It truly is amazing what 5 women can pull off when they really put their minds to it.

Once we decided on our baby shower theme the invitations would be our next task to accomplish. Every time I search online for baby shower items I am overwhelmed with the choices that are available. There rarely is just one or two choices for anything, while this can make choosing a bit more difficult, you are sure to always find just what you are looking for like we were with our baby shower theme.

This grandma-to-be has waited a very long time for this baby shower

. For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to be a grandma. Finally, my son of 30 years was getting married and it surely would not be long now before my lifelong wish would come true. Sadly, that was not the case. Our new daughter-in-law (Kelly) and son had decided to wait 5 years before they would start a family themselves.

It was almost 5 years to the day on which I received the call I had been waiting for all these years, I was going to be a grandma. The joy I experienced was overwhelming. There was going to be so much to do and plan. The first and most important thing for me to do was to share my happy news with all of my family and friends.

Grandmother baby shower

All of my family and friends were actually more happy for me than they were for my son and Kelly I think. The wish to become a grandma was one that I had shared with all of them for years and they were truly happy for me and my husband. Some even wanted to throw me a “Grandmother Baby Shower”, I declined the offer but got a real kick out of the idea. I have read that baby showers for grandma’s are becoming more and more popular for first time grandma’s.

Instead I focused on turning all of my attention on making sure the baby shower that would be thrown for Kelly would be the most fun and memorable baby shower she could have. Having been to so many different kinds of baby showers over the years I was not clear on the proper etiquette of giving one and by whom they should be given by. Clearly, I have my work cut out for me if I am to insure Kelly is going to have the most fun and memorable baby shower she could have.

I think first, I will turn to the internet for information on everything there was to know about baby showers. There is an endless supply information and general knowledge out there so I hope to only post the most relevant and useful information I find for everyone here on my blog. If I can help someone else out along the way that would be great.

The baby shower host

Since the baby shower will be a celebration of the new life that will joining our family I want everything about it to be perfect. Kelly has so many friends that are going to want to probably host the shower and she also has 3 sister’s that may also want to host the event. No matter which of us does ultimately end up hosting the baby shower, a special day for all is what I am hoping for.

Once the question of who will be hosting the baby shower and where it will take place is decided upon, we will surely move on to a theme for the shower and invitations. This will require that we gather all the necessary information needed to determine the exact type of theme the baby shower will be and the type and amount of invitations we will need to purchase for the baby shower.

I am so excited I already have lists of ideas and suggestion going for a variety of baby shower ideas, gift ideas and foods to serve. Lists of people to remember to invite and questions to ask the other girls that will be involved in helping with the baby shower. First, I think I will just enjoy the fact that I am finally going to be a grandma!
